The Gold Coast has a glorious tradition of the tacky souvenir. The Super Souvenir project takes a fresh look at these little talismans of memory, that generations of visitors took home with them after their holiday in the sun.
As the city evolves, Super Souvenir asks, what are the new kinds of souvenirs that speak about this place. Local artists have been invited to make objects, images and sound that generate conversations about the new Gold Coast and how it relates to its’ souvenir heritage past.
Look for the Super Souvenir caravan as it goes on the road around the Coast. Experience historical and contemporary displays of classic souvenirs and meet artists, collectors and community members at Panel Conversations and Souvenir Stories sessions.
You’re also invited to BYO GC souvenir and record what your souvenir means to you in the live podcast room. Drop in for some hands-on workshops for the whole family or pop in for the afternoon chills out sessions with the Teenage Retreat program led by young artists, musicians and designers.
Tune in online, at www.supersouvenir.net and @super.souvenir on Instagram where you will find updates and conversations with podcasts, interviews and the latest developments of life on the road with this roving exhibition space.
